Blogging is my hobby and in the beginning, my sole purpose was to learn how to do it – how to build the site and how to write.
I literally started because I was bored and looking for something to do. I desperately needed a new hobby. I found a new challenge to tackle. And I love a good challenge!
5 years later and I’m still a part of this blogging world.
Blogging is therapeutic
Writing in my blog is like talking to a good friend.
My first experience with this type of writing was at the age of 15 when I began writing in a journal. I named my journal Nicole and I wrote to her like you write to a friend. At 15, I experienced lots of teenage emotions and insecurities and my journal, Nicole, was always there for me.
Blog writing is a lot like writing to my journal. I write to you in the same voice that I would use to talk to a friend.
It is also a good way to declutter the mind. Sometimes, there are a lot of thoughts swirling around in my head and I can’t focus on my work. When I get them out, it is easier to get things done.
Blogging gives me a voice
Most people like to talk to me because I am a very good listener and I don’t talk much. So you can talk all you want and I probably won’t interrupt.
When I’m asked about myself, I say “um” a lot and I sort of stammer. I really don’t like it. And, when I explain how to do something, you might question If I even know what I am talking about. (I am getting better at this though!)
I am an introvert. I do not like to talk about myself. And, I am socially awkward.
Writing allows me to communicate with more confidence and clarity.
Blogging has an amazing community
Sometimes, this is my number one reason for blogging. Especially when I’m feeling overwhelmed and ready to give it all up (which I did last year). I think about the great friendships made through my blog, and it gives me the motivation I need to keep going.
Even when I need to take a super long break, my friends are still there to encourage and inspire me when I return.
Blogging taught me how to make websites
I think it first started with some minor CSS tweaks to change font sizes and colors and now I feel confident enough to set-up websites and blogs for others.
So, now I can help others while doing something I love!
Your turn… why do you blog?
This is day 31 of my 31 day blog challenge. (the last day!)
